The gala supports patients and families affected by cancer in Ascension Parish.

Each year, the Gonzales Area Foundation hosts the GAF / Mary Bird Perkins Gala, a fundraising event dedicated to this cause. After a two-year pause due to the pandemic, we are thrilled to resume this tradition. Although we missed gathering and celebrating together, we are proud to share that, with your support, GAF was able to contribute $160,000 to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center between 2020 and 2021, even without our annual event. Since 2016, our total donations have exceeded $1 million.

In 2024, GAF launched the Capital Campaign in collaboration with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Gonzales, with a goal to raise funds for the expansion of our local center. The Gonzales Area Foundation has committed to raising $500,000 of the $2.5 million needed for the expansion project. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised $175,000 toward this goal at the 2024 GAF Gala. In addition, we secured $150,000 in pledged donations, which will be collected over the next five years. Donors who contribute at this level will receive recognition with named spaces within the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Gonzales.
