The advisory board is comprised of residents of Ascension Parish. They are responsible for leading the Foundation and making decisions about grants that are made from the fund.
“Johnny" Berthelot is a former Councilman and Mayor of the City of Gonzales, Louisiana and a former member of the House of Representatives for the State of Louisiana. He has served as Chairman to the Board for the Ascension Economic Development Corporation and is currently serving on the Gonzales City Council.
Melanie Espey Boudreaux is a lifelong resident of Ascension Parish. She has worked as office manager, paralegal and Notary Public at the law firm of Percy, Mumphrey & Skias for over 30 years. She has worked passionately to raise needed funds for East Ascension High School and the Spartan Booster Club through its annual Spartan Spectacular fundraiser while serving as an officer and board member. She assisted in raising funds for building construction and improvements for St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She is a graduate of Leadership Ascension.
DeEtte Patterson DeArmond is a founding member of the Gonzales Area Foundation. She is a former educator and currently a real estate agent/investor and small business owner.
She was a committee member of the original Cancer/Leukemia fundraiser, St. Theresa of Avila School Board president, founder of the St. Theresa School Alumni Association, City of Gonzales co-chairperson for Dixie Boys World Series tournament, East Ascension High School Booster Club vice president, East Ascension Hospital Board member, and 2015 chairperson for the first Gonzales Gala benefiting Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Gonzales.
She has held many other positions in her 20+ years of community fundraising and service for both the private and public sector in Ascension Parish.
Robert Ryland Percy, III is of counsel with the law firm Percy, Mumphrey and Skias in Gonzales where he has practiced for over 45 years. He retired as a rear admiral from the U.S. Navy after 36 years of active and reserve service.
He currently serves as Board Chairman of the Baton Rouge General Hospital; board member of the Ascension Parish Library System; member of the SoLa Super Region Committee; and, Secretary to the LSU Cadets of the Ole War Skule.
Darla Rye is a lifelong resident of the Parish of Ascension and currently serves as a member of the Gonzales Area Foundation. She is also associated with the Gonzales Gala, which originated in 2016.
She is currently executive administrative assistant to Judge Katherine Tess Stromberg in the 23rd Judicial District Court, and has worked in the local legal community for over 25 years.
Darla is also an active member of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, where she serves as a homebound Eucharistic Minister and as a member of Catholic Daughters. Her service to St. Theresa Avila Catholic School includes the Catholic School Committee, Development Committee, Fair Committee and Auction Committee.
